The Nubian by Juvia's | Review

July 3, 2018

Slowly but surely, I have been making my way down the list of eyeshadow palettes left for me to review and next up is The Nubian by Juvia's.

This palette features 4 matte and 8 shimmery "pearl" textured neutral eyeshadows, perfect for everyday wearable looks or for those who like to stay away from more colourful shadows. I tend to reach for this palette when I am getting ready for work on those days I decide to take a break from my warm tone shadows. I'll sport a more neutral eye instead because it is quick and easy, and since I am usually pressed for time, having all the eyeshadows I need in a single palette makes my life a lot easier.

Having used this palette enough times over the past few months, I have come to the conclusion that it may be my least favourite of all the Juvia's palettes I own. It is a neutral palette after all, so the shades offered are not the most exciting, but that is not where I find fault with The Nubian eyeshadow palette. The overall performance of some of the shadows leaves much to be desired, in my opinion.

The 2 matte shadows in the first row are not as pigmented as I expected them to be, so I often find myself layering the shadows more than 5x over, just for it to be noticeable on my lids. Then there is the matte black/dark gray shadow (the last shadow in the 3rd row of the palette), which performs the absolute worst in my opinion; building up the intensity of this shadow is a struggle. I expected this shadow to pack a punch, but unfortunately it was a complete flop. And when it comes to the shimmers, I think the shades are pretty, but I found the 3 lightest shimmery shadows to bunch up quite easily, with the last shadow in the 1st row being the worst offender (I have found this particular shade to be extremely patchy when trying to get it to adhere to a brush and even when applying it on the lids. It has also been crumbling in the pan every time I go in with my brush). I have also noticed that going in with the shimmer shadows wet (which I LOVE to do with shimmer shadows) tends to give them that chunky foiled appearance on the lid and it may bunch up in one spot at times, depending on the shimmer used, so that was a bummer. But I can still make this palette work for me, despite its little kinks, I am just a little disappointed that I did not live up to all the hype.

Nonetheless, these are just my personal thoughts on The Nubian palette and I am sure many others may differ from mine, and that is perfectly fine (it's what makes the world go round).

I have also already posted swatches for this palette; if you are interested in seeing those, you can click here: "Juvia's Place- The Nubian Palette | Swatches". And if you are interested in my review and swatches of The Zulu by Juvia's, you can click on the following links to see those posts as well: "Juvia's Place- The Zulu Palette | Swatches" & "Juvia's Place- The Zulu | Review".

Now for today's look, I decided to steer away from doing the typical brown smokey eye and instead, I tried to have a little more fun. As always, all products used are listed down below, so just keep on scrolling if you are interested! :)
