Crawfish Shack Seafood

May 21, 2018

I think after binge watching so many seafood mukbangs on youtube, I finally convinced myself to actively find a restaurant that served crawfish and give in to the hype.

It didn't take very much time for me to find a popular spot that served Cajun platters all year round, so I made plans to head straight to Crawfish Shack Seafood after reading through some of their reviews.

I went to Crawfish Shack Seafood already having it set in my mind that I wanted their Shack-tastic Platter with Cajun-seasoned snow crab, blue crab, crawfish, mussels, shrimp, corn, andouille sausage, and red potatoes (doesn't your mouth just water thinking about it). And it goes without saying, but I was obviously most excited to have a go at the crawfish (and I am fully aware that nothing compares to good ole' Louisiana crawfish, but I gotta work with what I've got).

My order consisted of the Shack-tastic Platter for 2 and an order of fried calamari (with broccoli being my choice of "side", gotta stay healthy...lol). I think, had I known exactly how much seafood came with my order, I would have mostly likely skipped out on the calamari, but oh well, can't go back now.

I was happy and simultaneously stunned to see the size of the crawfish and mussels served. Happy because bigger crawfish mean a little more meat to enjoy since you typically have very little to work with (you would probably go through a bucket's worth before you started feeling full). And stunned because I had never been served a mussel bigger than my palm before.

Because of the counter-service setting at the Crawfish Shack Seafood restaurant (you place and pay for your order when you walk in, then after seating yourself, you wait for your food to be brought out) there isn't much to comment on in regards to my experience with their service, since you don't really interact much with anyone; which is fine with me.

In regards to the actual meal, I was quite content with the quality and flavour of the seafood served. The seasoning was not "the absolute best" I've ever had, but it hit the spot and satisfied my crawfish craving- which is all I can really ask for. The only real draw back for me was the ambience. It didn't seem as though the tables were whipped down after each guest because remnants of food were very much visible on every table I saw. The decor hanging from the ceiling was also in desperately crying out to be tossed or replaced- all colour was gone and a thick layer of dust had almost blackened most of the nets used for decoration. And I think most unappealing was some uncomfortable sticky the floors were. I felt as though I was walking through a sea of gorilla glue, every step was a bit of a struggle as the floor did not seem to want to let go of the soles of my shoes (literally.). This was immediately off-putting and had I not already paid for my food, I would have most likely gotten up and left.

OVERALL THOUGHTS ON CRAWFISH SHACK SEAFOOD
Ambience: 2/5
Service: N/A
Food: 4/5
Value: 4/5

- Would I dine there again?
Physically sit down and have a meal there? Probably not. Place a to-go order? Maybe.

- Things I enjoyed?
The seafood platters do turn out to be pretty good value with the amount of food you get.
Their Cajun seasoning isn't too bad.

Have you ever tried crawfish before? What are your seafood-restaurant recommendations? I'd love to know!

xoxo
