Lunch Date | Sushi Avenue

February 27, 2016

Today I gave into my cravings and took a little trip down to Sushi Avenue. This must have been my fourth time dining there, but each and every time, I roll on out the door 5 lbs heavier and 10x happier.

I always manage to order their Shrimp Tempura Roll because I honestly cannot resist shellfish (or seafood in general, let's be real), but each time I visit, I try one or two items I've never had before. Today I felt "adventurous" and went for quite an ambitious lunch with a choice of their Emory Roll, Calamari Tempura Roll, and their Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll. And I even ventured into the land of desserts to try their Vanilla Mochi ice-cream (because I felt the need to increase my chances of  hosting a few new cavities).

I started off with their Miso soup, one of my favourites,  but I've also had their Calamari Rings as a starter, and those are also quite delicious!

It didn't take much time at all before they brought forth heaven on a plate.

This was my first experience with Mochi ice-cream and I'm still a bit torn on whether or not I'm completely sold on it. But I do consider myself to be someone who's always open to trying new foods, so I'm willing to try this dessert a few more times before completely writing it off.

I found the mochigome to be the most interesting part of the dessert because I've never had anything quite like it before. This "sweet rice flour dough" covers the pocket of ice-cream hidden on the inside. I know the Japanese have a huge appreciation for texture when it comes to food, so if you're someone who is not a fan of  combining "sticky" and "delicious," this dessert may not be for you. I personally am very fond of different textures when it comes to food, so I didn't mind the "chewy" or "doughy" feeling of the dessert. It certainly caught me a little off guard because it was my first time having it, but I am willing to try it again and maybe even different flavours next time to truly decide whether or not I am really a fan.

Completely unrelated to sushi, but sticking with the dessert theme for the moment, I thought it would be nice to end this post on an additional sweet note (mostly because I just thought these pictures were too beautiful not to share, and I also have no where else to put them, so... here we are). I hope this gorgeous bouquet brightens up someone's day as much as it did mine.
